"Tips on getting Organized"

Follow these 'tips on getting organized' if you want to find an organizing system that really works for YOU.
Having a system that fits you will make getting and staying organized a lot easier!

Organizing your home and your life can sometimes feel really difficult and overwhelming. Where to start? What to do?? And does it ever end???

The great thing about getting and staying organized is that it will make you feel really really good!

Anything that is not in order and that bugs you (even if it is not an obvious, in your face irritation) drains energy. You never quite feel in control, and you never quite feel safe and done with your work.

Of course, being organized doesn't keep you safe.

It just gives you a lot more space in which to be.

Clean, clear, beautiful space, be it in your head or in your home.

And this space can then be filled with wonderfully exciting things instead of the same-old, same-old!

But to achieve that, we first have to lay some foundations.

The first of my 'tips on getting organized' is that you sit down and really think about what a beautiful life would look like for you.

Imagine your perfect, ordinary day in great detail.

Roses on a porch

  • Where do you live?
  • With whom do you live?
  • How do you live?
  • What do you do?
  • What is your passion?
  • Where and how do you work?
  • What do you enjoy most?
  • What does your house look like?

Think carefully through all these questions and write your answers down in great detail.

Your ideal day will become like a map you can follow.

Every time you have to make a decision, ask yourself if it will bring you closer to living your ideal day or not.
Also think about what is most important in your ideal day?
Do you HAVE to have a big house or could you be happy in a flat as long as your family is with you?

There are no right or wrong answers here, what we are looking for is what makes you tick, what makes you happy.

Now it is time for the second one of the 'tips on getting organized':

Look at the values that you have, and if those values support your ideal day or not.

Your values will again provide wonderful guidelines to let you know which decisions to make, and this alone will make your life lots easier and clearer!

The third of the 'tips on getting organized' is to make a wheel of life.

To download a wheel of life template click here.

To make the wheel of life, draw a circle and then divide it into segments. The number of segments depends on the number of areas in your life that are important to you.

For example:

  • Your relationship
  • Your family
  • Your friends and social contacts
  • Your work
  • Your home
  • Your body, health, nutrition and exercise
  • Your spirituality

The middle of the circle represents zero, the outside line ten.

Now draw a line in each segment. The height of the line depends on how fullfilled your life is in this particular area.

If your life is very fullfilled in regards to your relationship, draw the line high up close to the circumference of the circle. If it is not so fullfilled, draw it lower. If you have no partner at the moment it will be close to zero.

Do this with all the segments.

Now have a look at your wheel. Are the lines all on one level, which means that your whell can run smoothly? Or is it tumbling along?

Work on the areas that score low.

Now you know what is important to you!
You can never do it all, so concentrating your organizing efforts on the areas that are most important to you will have the biggest positive impact on your life, and will make you happiest.
