"Spring Cleaning Tips"

Spring Cleaning, and reading Spring Cleaning Tips, always had a strange fascination for me. I love the idea of a sparkly, clean, deliciously smelling house. I would love it even more if it just happened by itself, without me having to slave away at it.
To combine my two desires, i decided to really simplify the process, to organize the cleaning through a house cleaning checklist, and to tackle one room at a time.
I also always dangle a carrot in front of my nose, this year it is a nice, comfy, old leather arm chair that would fit perfectly into my living room. I will bring it home once my house is in the proper state to receive it.
Hopefully my tips will make spring cleaning easier for you too! tin cleaning bucket

So, lets get started!

First of all, you will have to get all your cleaning products together. I prefer to use natural cleaning products that do not harm the environment and my family and pets. Lemon, white vinegar and baking powder are magic and safe. See Natural Cleaning Products for recipes and ideas.

Products you will need:

  • Microfibre cloth and Dust Mob or Featherduster
  • Large and small broom
  • Dustpan
  • Vacuum Cleaner
  • Floor Mop
  • Bucket
  • Cleaning Solution for Floor type
  • Sponges, Cleaning Cloths
  • Srubbers
  • Cleaning Gloves
  • All Purpose Cleaner
  • Window Cleaner
  • Washing powderand Stain Remover
  • special Products: Beeswax for wooden furniture, Oven cleaner, leather cleaner...
  • Music you love
  • Time

Now for the spring cleaning tips:

  • Pick one room to start your spring cleaning.
  • Take the curtains or blinds off, take carpets and pillows outside and air them
  • Take everything away that is standing around. Decide if you really still enjoy it and if it belongs in the room before you put it back
  • If you have cubboards or shelves in the room, take everything out (place it somewhere outside of the room). Now would also be a good time to sort through your belongings and decide if you still want and use them, and if they are stored in the right place. Check out Organizing your Clutter and Lets get organized for suggestions.
  • Start from the top of the room working your way down. First use your feather duster or the vaccuum cleaner to clean and dust the corners and walls of your room
  • Take the lampshades down and clean them, also wipe the cables clean
  • clean your windows, wipe down (wet or dry) all surfaces
  • Clean the inside (and outside) of your cubboards and shelves, think about covering the shelves with some pretty wallpaper or gift wrap
  • Clean everything else that is still in the room
  • Clean your floor thoroughly
  • Wash the curtains, clean the blinds, clean the carpets (see carpet cleaning tips), wash the pillow cases
  • Only bring things back that you have cleaned and fixed, that you love and use, and that belong in the room!
  • Light a tealight under an aromatherapy oil burner, see Aromatherapy Oils and their Uses for ideas on which oils to use when.
  • Then move on to the next room, until your whole house is sparkling!

And my last Spring Cleaning Tip: Make yourself some tea and enjoy your beautiful home!
