"Organizing Your House"

Organizing your house can be very rewarding. A clear, beautiful space will help you to recharge and recover, to leave the stress of your workday behind and to enjoy time with your family.

If your home is organized, it is much easier to relax.

On the other hand, the more chaotic your environment is, the more chaotic your inner life will be, and the more difficult it is for you to have a clear idea about what it is that you want.

If you have to look daily for things that are not in their place, you complicate your life immensely.

You are not in control of your life if you are not in control of your home.

Organizing your house might seem like a never-ending task, especially if you have kids.

But there are tips and tricks that make getting and staying organized a whole lot easier.

Lets go through every room in your house.

Before we start however, it is good to put 'organize central' in place.

'Organize Central'

notebook, pen and paper

For 'organize central' you need a notebook, a pen, some tea or coffee and some un-interrupted time.

Start by writing down what works in your home and what doesn't work.

When do you get stressed?

Is it always difficult to get out of the house on time in the mornings?
Do you have to search for keys or school projects that have to be handed in?

Or is it more difficult in the evenings?
Are you struggling to cook, help with the homework, load the washing machine all at the same time?

Figure out which times are most stressful for you and see the article on organizing your day for tips on how to organize things better.

Now think about what you really enjoy doing in your home.

Do you love to read? Then you need a comfortable seat with good light and a place to put your drink.

Maybe you like to take a bath? Is your bathroom warm and inviting, are there soft towels, a beautiful bath oil?

Or is it important for you to have friends over, to cook and invite people for dinner?
Then look at the way your kitchen works.
Is it big enough?
Can you talk with your guests while you cook?
Do you have enough storage space?
Good cooking utensils?

Also ask the people living with you what is most important for them and write it down.

Now organize your house with these priorities in mind.

It will immediately feel much more like a home, a place tailor-made to your requirements!

Organizing basics

  • Decide on the functions of each room.
  • Have a place for everything that you own!
  • If you take something out, put it back.
  • If you open something, close it again.
  • Plan routine tasks into your day so things don't get out of control.
  • Involve everybody in your household!
  • Don't be a perfectionist!

Once you are finished organizing your house, maintaining order will be relatively simple.
